This video installation was a multi-year meditation on the act of recording and its various techniques. I used a VHS camcorder to record and project the setting sun’s image onto one or multiple CRT televisions in real-time. After tracing the descent of the sun onto tape, the recording is stopped, rewound, and replayed; the light of the sun moving from sky to screen.I've always been interested in the materiality of media infrastructures that make possible our consumption and production of images, especially as Internet users are removed from the physical imprints of their digital recordings.Each recording was a group effort. My friends and collaborators produced soundscapes to pair with the visual recordings.
